We recommend The Witch’s Curse by Exit Escape NYC with a Fun Factor of 6. Our rating is based on the varied and clean puzzles and the satisfying hands-on manipulation of the props.
This room was formally known as The Magic Crystal - and we were told that there were no substantive changes outside of the new name. There are some signs of its age - especially with the scrolls that retain their wound-up form. We have enjoyed all of the rooms we have played at Exit Escape NYC - they are solid escape rooms with clean puzzles and storylines. Our favorite room at this location is High Speed NYC - which we played in 2017.
This room can be booked by 2 to 8; we recommend 2 to 4; I don’t think the set space would be comfortable for a group of 8. There is ample space and content for group sizes up to 4.
The Witch’s Curse is an excellent example of Merlinesque-themed magical rooms. The Witch’s Curse checks all the boxes for an enjoyable escape room experience for us—providing clear and varied puzzles with a solid mix of types and difficulty—while we are warmly welcomed by the friendly and helpful staff. The room may not dazzle, but it’s not just about keys and combos; there are puzzles that creatively incorporate magical abilities with a bit of humor. All in - we enjoyed our time here and it is worth the visit.
Our only stumbling block was that one of the props we discovered and used correctly got a bit jumbled and offered an incorrect solution. The game host could not recall this happening before, and all was resolved with communication.
Exit Escape NYC is located on the ground floor of an office building on W 36th Street in Manhattan, not far from the Empire State Building. Therefore, parking may be difficult, so it’s better to use public transportation. If you visit The Witch’s Curse, please let them know you saw a review on Fun Factor Escape Room Reviews.
