We recommend Black Cat by Planet Escape Room with a Fun Factor of 6. Our rating is based on the varied and challenging puzzles, the satisfying hands-on manipulation of the props, and the nicely decorated set. This room can be booked by 2 to 7; we recommend 3 or 4; although 2 experienced players can complete the challenges but the non-linear puzzles increase the difficulty level for a team of 2. The difficulty level of this room we pegged as advanced as there are varied solving techniques with some that are more challenging. We enjoyed the variation and the challenge. According to the Planet Escape Room website, this room can be set at “starter” level with advanced notice. We appreciate the enhanced level of customer service when the escape room is able to scale the difficulty to suit the team that will be playing it.
Planet Escape Room is located in Lomita, California, which is in Los Angeles County and very close to Long Beach. We haven’t visited Planet Escape Room since 2018. We recommend all of their rooms and appreciate the heightened care and expense they invest in them. On the day we visited, there was a birthday party in progress, and we learned that this is an option for booking. We discovered a fun fact: this new escape room was inspired by the recent adoption of a couple of cats by the owners of Planet Escape Room. This is an Egyptian-themed room - one of the top-10 most developed escape room themes.
Black Cat has a lot of content - and employs many different puzzle techniques. We appreciated that not all the content could be used immediately upon discovery—this encourages players to be deliberate about what they observe and consider when it might become useful.
Black Cat uses an ample amount of technology to help drive the mystical storylines. Generally, solutions were rewarded with a clear result. With only one exception, we found the puzzles to have clear, elegant solutions and clues. There was one time when we solved a puzzle and didn’t realize that it triggered something. Which led us to repeat the task several times and scratching our heads until we moved one.
Planet Escape Room is in a small shopping plaza, and thus, there is easy parking. If you visit Black Cat, please let them know you saw a review on Fun Factor Escape Room Reviews - let us know what you think - and have FUN
