Inkidisious, Murder in Black and White is Escape Room 66’s older room at its Los Angeles location. We played this room after we tried out their newer room - The Mush Room here is a link that review. We enjoyed this room - Inksidious - even more and also recommend it! What really made this room shine was the art direction and its integration into the puzzles.
The scenario is that we are at a cartoonist’s workshop and something has gone wrong - the cartoonist is missing! We start off in a workshop which is a room awash with colors and color-based puzzles - when we progress further we find ourselves in a cartoon world but one of black and white…hence the name of this room. Escape Room 66 made the clear transition from the color world to the black and white room fun and distinctive.
The puzzles are varied and cleanly clued. There are some non-linear elements so our group of four was able to progress quickly through some elements as we split our focus. In general I am not a fan of black light puzzles - but Escape Room 66 added some humor and also effectively incorporated this technique in a particularly fun way for one of the solves - so hats off to them for this much appreciated integration. One of pet peeves of the black light technique is typically being provided only one for the entire team - and that was the case here. We were only a group of four so it wasn’t a big impediment but I could see how a full group of seven might be frustrated.
This was our second visit to Escape Room 66’s Los Angeles location and we were once again treated to Escape Room 66’s staff enthusiastic and friendly energy. We enjoyed chatting with them about our escape room experiences.
We recommend this room with a Fun Factor of 7 - it is a solid escape room with a clear and integrated art direction. The non-linear elements make this a good choice for a group of four or more.
