We had fun playing Prison Break, Trapped in Time by Escape Room 66 and we recommend it with a Fun Factor of 6. That rating is based on the effective and varied puzzles, which were generally clean and logical. The puzzles are the room’s best feature: varied, logical, and mostly intuitive, with enough task diversity to keep everyone engaged. We always appreciate when a room avoids repetition, and Prison Break, Trapped in Time delivers in that respect.
This room accommodates up to 12 players, but we suggest a group of 4 to 5 for the best experience. Like many prison-themed rooms, this one begins with players split into separate spaces. With at least four people, no one needs to start completely solo, which can be a more enjoyable and balanced way to begin the game.
This room is intermediate in difficulty, with non-linear gameplay that keeps multiple players busy. While it’s possible to complete the game with just two or three players, be prepared to multitask under time pressure—especially early on.
While we’re often skeptical of rooms that split teams at the start—many times, we find the content and experience offered to the multiple groups to be unbalanced - or that communication between areas is particularly awkward - or that the players are separated for an unenjoyable amount of game time — but Escape Room 66 handles the split team motif well. Their design supports parallel play across areas, and the challenges and visuals in each space feel thoughtfully crafted and balanced which drives the narrative well.
The room is not a horror experience, but it does carry a “spooky, not scary” vibe, as advertised. A few moments might feel eerie or mildly unsettling, but it’s accessible to most players who are okay with light suspense.
Escape Room 66 has plenty of covenient parking - always a plus!
Finally, if you’re considering bringing a large group, this room is one of the better examples of effectively scaling content. There’s enough space and puzzle variety to avoid the all-too-common issue of players crowding over the same clue or prop.
Bottom line: Prison Break, Trapped in Time offers a solid mix of challenge and fun, especially for groups that enjoy variety and teamwork in their escape room adventures.
