Review: Part 2 - Barcelona’s Best Escape Rooms!

Please read Part 1 of this two-part review for an overview of the Escape Room scene in Barcelona. Now here are the rooms we played - sorted by those we found to be the most fun!

Barcelona is a trove of fun escape rooms! Here are the rooms we played that we can highly recommend and earned a FUN FACTOR of 10! Our highest rating - meaning these were among the most fun experience we had.

All of these games are playable in English - make sure you either select this option when you book and/or send the company an email to confirm this. We generally found the English language skills to be outstanding and not a limiting factor at all. You must book in advance - as explained in Part 1 of our Barcelona Review, none of the game we played had a lobby in the traditional sense…which means you can’t just walk in and book…but especially if you must play the game in English not all companies can accommodate with a short (same-day) notice…so please book early and confirm English will be the language. Also take note that while many of the companies we played had an English language toggle switch on their website, many did not - even though they offer the game in English - so simply use your web browser’s translation feature to make sure you know what you are getting into.

“Highly recommended — Fun Factor of 10 or 9!”

La Taberna [The Tavern] The City

Rated number 9 in the world on the 2023 TERPECA list!  A bit north of central Barcelona - but a must-do! The City Escape created an amazing world with organic experiences and puzzles. The set is expansive and the characters you will meet are many, varied and content-rich.  The picky imperfections in a puzzle or two were overcome by an amazingly fun time.

Rated in the Top 100 in the world on the 2023 TERPECA list! District 111 has been around for a while but is still a must-play game. Unreal Room Escape creates a very explorable set which will have you up high and down low for an organic experience. No actors with you, but there will be interactions and cinematic moments! Show up at the agreed upon time and you are buzzed into your bunker in District 111...which is currently under rebel control.

Rated number 19 in the world on the 2023 TERPECA list!  An amazing set and adventure!  There are choices to be made and cinematic moments.  We loved the effort and thought that allowed teams optional paths to completion - very organic...the elevator is a highlight! This is NOT a horror game but there are some intense moments and some physical elements including climbing.

Unlike the rooms above, The Wonders of Agrabah is not in the TERPECA Top 100 (it is in the Top 300 in 2023!).  But we had a very fun time - the first few minutes of the game started slowly but then the set opened up in immersive and organic ways.  This is a more puzzle intensive room for Barcelona - but the difficulty level is more on the intermediate to basic side.  What makes this room stand out as one of the most fun times we have had is...well I can't tell as I don't want to spoil it.  But it was cinematic and they pulled it off...or I should say it was "Unreal!"

Highly Recommended Fun Factor of 8.

You have inherited a bar from a distant relative.  Do you deserve it? The puzzles start on the sidewalk before you are shown the bar.  Brilliant!

Has the first vampire returned?  Is she coming for you? To be admitted you have to show the mark of the chosen few (fortunately you will be provided the mark in advance!). This is not a horror room but it definitely has some intense and scary moments that will not be fun for all.  We had a blast when Akasha returned and was chasing us.

One of two brilliant rooms at this location.  Your team has received word that there is a bomb that needs defusing at this bar.  So as to not alarm the local business your team poses as electricians!  We had such fun ringing the bell at the bar and playing the role of the electrician  - which got us being shown to the electric panel room that we have been briefed on. This is a timed room

Mr. Josep the Master Brewer is waiting for you - in the form of an engaging and high definition video performance.  We all agreed that we wanted to not only have a beer with Mr. Josep but also take him with us.  This set the stage for a game which opened up to reveal its namesake...the Brewery.  Each team member has a unique role to play as vested in a scannable wristband - there are six roles but if you are not a group of six some will double up.  And at the end - you will get to sample a beer you "brewed". Number 63 in the world on TERPECA!

Another plunge to a set with a sandy abyss to solve ancient mysteries!  The set is fantastic, immersive and fun to explore.  This is not a room for puzzle solvers but is a great experience for adventure seekers and those with good power of observation.

Narcos has many elements - it has good solid escape room puzzles, a varied set, a compelling story and 3 sensible and very different interactions with an actor - at the beginning, middle and end.
